Matter of Britain: a Sussex village quests for the Holy Grail

Matter of Britain is a moving image artwork made by the villagers of Mayfield in response to the Grail Legend. At the heart of that legend is the wasteland: a land devastated by humanity, which can only be restored by the recovery of the Grail. As the characters of the legend quest for the Holy Grail, so the villagers of Mayfield collaborate in a creative response to environmental concern. The completed artwork will be exhibited at the Museum of English Rural Life and Ditchling Museum of Art & Craft. It is supported by an Arts Council of England Project Grant, the Lund Fund, High Weald AONB, East Sussex Arts Partnership and the University of Reading.
